Think twice before you light up! Glenwood Springs smoking law may cost you more than just a pack.

Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson is enforcing Glenwood Springs smoking law more than ever this year. Last summer, the Glenwood Springs City Council passed a ban on smoking from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. and helped to spread the word of the $200 dollar initial fine by placing fliers around the town. Glenwood Springs smoking law “We definitely tried to take what I felt was a patient approach to it, putting out information with fliers and foot patrols, putting up signage,” said Police Chief Terry Wilson.   Glenwood Springs PD feel they have reached the end of their rope when it comes to patience. Feeling they’ve “gone overboard on reasonableness,” they feel they need to kick up efforts to really drive this enforcement home. Meaning, if you’re caught smoking 5 feet from any one of the signs that have been placed, you should expect a fine.   They are extremely serious about this ban, and will enforce it. The first offense is a $200 fine, the second $300, and the third $500. Even when smokers are leaving a bar and it’s past 10 p.m., they still need to remain at least 15 feet away.   The Glenwood Springs authorities feel as though they had given the smokers of Glenwood Springs a fair warning. Since they posted fliers all around the town, they are now more than ready to fully enforce it. Therefore, if you’re in Glenwood Springs, be sure to avoid smoking during the designated hours in town or else you could leave with $200 less in your pocket.

What do you think about the Glenwood Springs smoking law? Should the fine of smoking one cigarette really be $200?
