New design concepts for the 16th Street Mall have been revealed. The potential plans were released ahead of an Open House on October 18, which will be held to provide feedback on the designs.
On October 2, the city of Denver revealed its potential plans for 16th Street Mall. The Downtown Denver Partnership and RTD are advocating for the changes to be made and are in the middle of a National Environmental Policy Act study, which will help determine the final outcome for the mall. The study is expected to finish in June 2018. After that, final plans can take place. Unless, of course, the study decides to not take any action. Changes and improvements include aligning the transit lanes and general location of the trees, lights, and other gathering/pedestrian spaces. Other concepts and input will be discussed at two Open Houses on October 18 at the RTD's office (1600 Blake Street). One starts at noon and the second at 5 p.m., with both lasting one hour.

There are three potential plans:

Median Asymmetrical: This would keep the setup in three sections, but with small changes; the surface and below-ground infrastructure would be rebuilt.
Center: This would remove the center median section and replace it with the buses, and the sidewalks would get moved to the sides.
Center Asymmetrical: This would move the buses to the center of the mall except the first and third sections.
