One of two stranded horses in Valley County has been rescued! A group of volunteers went above and beyond to save the stranded animal.

One of two stranded horses found on a remote mountain in Valley County has been rescued via airlift, thanks to remarkable efforts from a group of volunteers. It took a helicopter dropping a rope to rescuers on the ground to save the tranquilized horse, who is now being cared for by Idaho Horse Rescue. Robert Bruno, President of Idaho Horse Rescue, stated that the horse was in very poor shape and probably wouldn’t have lasted another few days.   Unfortunately, the other stranded horse has not been seen for several days and is presumed to be dead. The two stranded horses had stuck together for a long time, and there is no known reason that they would have separated, meaning it’s likely the other didn’t make it.   The two stranded horses were found several weeks ago near Boulder Lake, where deep snow prevented access except by snowmobile. Volunteers had been taking hay and water in to sustain the horses until an aerial rescue was possible. Once he’s healthy enough, he’ll be rehabilitated and retrained to be around humans. For now, though, everyone is focusing on enjoying the good day and celebrating the rescue.
