CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The NFL draft is when dreams come true for a few hundred players.

With the No. 8 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn.

Horn was the first defensive player taken off the board.

"He was the top rated player on our board," said Panthers General Manager Scott Fitterer. "We saw someone making an immediate impact."

The Panthers said once they Horn's tape, they knew the type of impact he could have on Carolina's roster.

"He brings a lot of energy," said Fitterer. "I really think he's a good fit for this team. We're excited to get him."

Along with the No. 8 pick, the Panthers also have 7 other picks in the draft, until the team made a few deals. Carolina came away with 11 players from the 2021 NFL Draft.

There are 259 total picks in the 2021 NFL draft.
