Please help Cory Clabon get the kidney he needs -- Time is running out!
Jessica Josephine recently learned the devastating news that her 12-year-old son's kidneys are failing, and if no donor is found within the next six to 12 months, he will have to go on dialysis.
Cory Clabon, of Virginia Beach, was born with sickle cell disease and then later diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder at only 3. Having spent much of his life in and out of Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, he has been receiving blood transfusion therapy to strengthen his kidneys, but unfortunately, the treatments are no longer enough. His kidneys are currently functioning at less than 50 percent.
So at the end of December, Jessica took to social media to plead for help. She created the Facebook page Kinetic Kidneys to keep the public updated on Cory's progress and to look for a potential donor.
He needs a kidney from someone with the O blood type -- either positive or negative.
Cory's story has received a lot of support -- offers have been pouring in -- but the family has yet to find a match.
"People are re-posting it and sharing it. It's overwhelming and I was just crying because I know one of these people have to be his match," Jessica told Pix11 News. "I have been praying and praying and asking to send or make something happen because I was starting to feel like I can't do this by myself. It's not only about my son, but about the other people that they could be helping. There are so many people that need kidneys and people don’t know where to begin."
If you are considering being a donor, you must live in Hampton Roads, and your blood type must be O. Find the donation form here to get the match process started. You can also email Jessica for more information.
Do you have an O blood type? Have you considered being an organ donor? Tell us in the comments.
