With spring finally arriving, it's time to pull out the hiking boots and hit the trails. Keep these hiking tips in mind when you venture out!

It's no secret that Coloradans love the spring time! It gives us the chance to awake from our frozen slumbers and enjoy the warm weather Colorado has in store for us. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you're out on the trails.

Park in the designated parking areas

The best thing you can do to avoid a full parking lot: don't go hiking during peak hours. Also, remember that just because there's no parking space doesn't mean you can make your own parking space. Please be cautious and park in the proper areas, not along the side of the trail or blocking a pathway.

Be respectful of others on the trail

It should go without saying, but please remember to be respectful to those around you, and remember who you yield to. Bikers need to yield to runners and hikers; if you fail to yield, you could end up with a $50 ticket. Let's be safe and keep those around us safe!

Wear the proper footwear

Don't wear flip-flops. Not only are there rocks and other debris that could cause harm, but rattlesnakes are also a major threat. They have been seen all over, but more predominately in Jefferson County. If you encounter one, let it be.

Being a good dog owner goes beyond picking up after them

When you bring your furry friend on a hike, always keep them on a leash and under control. This not only keeps your dog safe, but others on the trail safe as well. Also, please for all that is good in the world, pick up after your dog! Too many times have hikers left their dog's waste on the side of the trail for everyone to see. Not only is it disrespectful, but it's also unsanitary. It's also a good idea to keep your dog on a leash at all times, to make sure it doesn't accidentally get too close to a rattlesnake. Here's some tips on how to be rattlesnake cautious this spring!
So, next time you're out on a hiking trail, remember these tips. Let's all do our part and be courteous to each other AND Mother Nature! Keep rockin', Colorado! Are there any tips that we left out? Share them with us!
