AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - An Amarillo man has died after a crash on State Loop 335 Friday.

According to DPS, a semi truck was stopped in the inside westbound lane of SL 335, waiting to use the crossover to turn left across the eastbound lanes.

The semi’s turn signal was activated while waiting to make the turn.

Officials say 83-year-old Antonio Avila-Mendoza was driving a pickup westbound, approaching the semi from behind.

Officials say Avila-Mendoza failed to control speed and crashed into the back of the smi.

He was taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries, where he later died.

The driver of the semi refused treatment by EMS at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
