American Airlines (AA) Cargo is enhancing its services this summer, taking advantage of new flights and additional widebody capacity between the US and key cities in Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific. The enhancement follows a busy winter schedule that also saw additional frequencies and capacity to various destinations.

The airline utilizes its passenger widebody aircraft to offer enhanced cargo capacity to various destinations worldwide. Europe is one of its most important markets, with over 4,000 monthly flights between the US and key European cities in summer, including 840 weekly in April. Cargo capacity is offered on the Boeing 777 (-200 and -ER) and Boeing 787 (-8 and -9).

Taking advantage of new routes between the US and Europe

American Airlines Cargo will start offering direct flights from key European cities to six US destinations this month. With the peak season approaching, it will also offer new routes and frequencies to Latin America while large aircraft are deployed on its Asia-Pacific routes to provide additional capacity.

Italy will get new flights from Venice (VCE) to Dallas-Forth Worth, Milan (MXP) to Philadelphia, Naples (NAP) to Chicago-O’Hare (ORD), and Rome-Fuimicino (FCO) to Miami International (MIA). In the UK, AA will launch flights from Edinburgh (EDI) to Philadelphia, while Spain gains flights from Madrid-Barajas (MAD) to Chicago. From Greece, the airline will serve Charlotte-Douglas (CLT) from Athens.

Roger Samways, American Airlines Cargo Vice President of Commercial said, "We are excited about the many new routes out of Europe as well as the increased capacity in our Asia-Pacific region that our summer schedule will bring and look forward to the additional opportunities that this will provide to serve our customers."

Over 4,000 monthly flights to and from Europe

Some of AA Cargo's seasonal routes will start this month and operate through October. The airline will operate over 4,000 monthly widebody flights between the US and Europe from June to August. In Latin America, flights from Miami to Buenos Aires (EZE) will increase to two daily between April and October. AA also operates a significant widebody network within the US, connecting its DFW hub with key cities, including Miami, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, flights to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), the airline’s largest European operation, will increase to five daily this month. American Airlines maintains a significant presence at Heathrow , both in cargo and passenger operations. Last year, the carrier enhanced its facility and digital capabilities at the London airport by moving to a new, larger location.

The location is adjacent to its two former buildings, combining its operations into one large footprint for imports and exports. The new building measures 120,000 square feet in area, a 15,000-square-foot expansion from the original combined facilities, and nearly doubles the PMC pallets storage capacity. Additionally, AA updated how it transmits operational updates digitally with its cargo handler, World Flight Services (WFS).

Cargo airlines are undoubtedly not all the same.

Cargo operations on nearly 60 routes

This April, AA’s widebody network covers nearly 60 routes from ten US airports to key cities worldwide. Other destinations include Auckland, Sydney, and Tokyo in APAC, Delhi and Doha in the Middle East, Dublin, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Zurich in Europe, and São Paulo and Santiago in Latin America. The airline also offers domestic trucking and narrowbody connections.

AA has scheduled 5,046 widebody flights this month, including 120 weekly in Asia-Pacific, 840 in Europe, 135 in Latin America and the Caribbean, 30 in the Middle East and Indian subcontinent, and 36 in the US. Meanwhile, its daily service from Philadelphia to Los Angeles ended on April 3. The carrier supports various shipments on its extensive passenger network, including life-saving pharmaceuticals and mail.

This summer, passengers will also enjoy enhanced connectivity between the US and Europe . American Airlines will offer over 70 daily departures to over 20 transatlantic destinations between March and October, including the new routes from Spain, Italy, Greece, and the UK. Passengers flying to Asia will benefit from larger aircraft with more premium seats.
