TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily)— The Arizona Cardinals announced a multi-year partnership with Honeywell Aerospace Technologies to inspire the next generation of students to pursue STEM.

For each first down the Cardinals have this season, the team will donate $250 to the “First Downs for Flight” program. The program, which caps out at $90,000, will provide scholarships for women pursuing careers in aviation.

“Honeywell is a proven innovator in aviation with deep roots in our community,” said Cardinals Owner Michael Bidwill. “We are thrilled to enter into this partnership that will positively impact Arizona youth for many years to come and help develop the next generation of leaders in STEM.”

For home games, Honeywell will host interactive activities at the Kids Zone and Flight Deck. Some stem-focused activities will include rocket racing, robot building, 3D printing and more.

The two organizations will also co-host recurring STEM combines, in which local high school and middle school students will compete in various competitions. The activities will combine football history and modern technology that highlight the science behind the game.

“Our partnership with the Arizona Cardinals is a perfect opportunity to celebrate STEM education and nurture the next generation of innovators in our community,” said Jim Currier, president and CEO of Honeywell.

“In the past two years, Honeywell has built partnerships with four local school districts in the Phoenix area because we know STEM education is crucial for cultivating a skilled workforce to tackle complex challenges in aviation. Now, we can expand on that work and reach students from all over the state through this partnership with the Cardinals,” said Currier.
