PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona public safety officials are rolling out a new resource to help families if they get into a serious crash.

Emergency Pediatric Information Cards, or E.P.I.C, are being made available to families with young children by the Arizona Department of Pubic Safety and Department of Health Services.

DPS Sergeant Eric Andrews said the cards will be a huge help during emergencies.

“There’s always times whether again the parent or the guardian maybe incapacitated; they may have a serious injury,” Andrews said. “We want to be able to talk to those kids that we see in the car and to be able to communicate with them.”

E.P.I.C. is a yellow adhesive card that can be attached either on the back of your child’s car seat or anywhere visible to first responders.

Sgt. Andrews said E.P.I.C. is free and voluntary to fill out. However, he said at least knowing your child’s name helps troopers comfort kids during emergencies.

“Just knowing their name is a huge part of putting them at ease,” Andrews said. “That’s a big step in just letting them know that we are there to help them and make sure they’re safe.”

DPS said a lot of troopers already have the cards on-hand and are starting to hand them out during calls.

In the next couple of months, Sgt. Andrews said you will be able to pick up an E.P.I.C. card at any DPS station and local ADOT facility.
