The Arlington Heights Veterans Breakfast & Celebration, held for the last 13 years, is organized by the Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights. This year’s breakfast will be held at Luther Village’s Wittenberg Commons, Lakeview Club, on the second floor, from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Breakfast is free to all veterans of the Armed Forces. About 150 to 180 veterans usually attend. The celebration includes breakfast, talks on veteran-relevant topics, a USMC birthday celebration, and “lots of comradeship,” said Greg Padovani, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights. Padovani said that veterans attending range from World War II through the Korean and cold wars, to Vietnam, and the Middle East. This year’s menu is still being planned. In the past, the menu has included steak and eggs. Veterans can choose their own attire, but should wear a cap with their branch of service or conflict. “For the past two years, we have been honored to host the ‘Portrait of a Soldier’ exhibit. This is a project started by Gov. Quinn to have a portrait drawn for each service person from Illinois who was KIA – Killed in Action,” said Padovani. “There are 130+ portraits printed on panels and displayed in the hallway outside the breakfast. It’s always a profound experience to walk this exhibit. It’s been all over the state.” Reservations are required and can be made by calling 847-670-7200, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is limited seating and individual reservations only. COVID precautions requested. Guests who are ill should not attend. Luther Village is located at 1250 Village Dr., Arlington Heights.
