BRIDGEWATER, Va. (WHSV) - Bridgewater College made history with an 80-0 win over Southern Virginia in its home opener Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles dominated from the start, with Jaicere Bateman finishing the first quarter with three passing touchdowns, including two connections with Cedric Drumgoole.

Bridgewater’s defense contributed significantly, with Aaron Moore and Donald Brooks II returning interceptions for touchdowns. The Eagles’ offense, led by Bateman’s 227 passing yards and Brendan Robinson’s 130 rushing yards, capitalized on Southern Virginia’s mistakes.

The defense, limiting the Knights to 119 yards and forcing four interceptions.

Saturday night’s win marks the largest shutout win in program history, taking over a 64-0 win over Guilford in 2000.

Now 1-1 on the season, Bridgewater hits the road on Saturday, Sept. 21 to take on Millsaps College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
