KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Charges have been filed against a man who allegedly terrorized residents with a firearm inside a Kansas City apartment building. Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, Feb. 26, indicate that Robert E. Curtis, 44, of Kansas City, has been charged after he allegedly broke into a metro apartment building and pointed a gun at several residents. A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that around 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 31, emergency crews were called to an area apartment building with reports of a disturbance. Callers reported Curtis, armed with a revolver, had been pointing the gun at different residents. He allegedly had done narcotics in the hallway when residents asked him to leave. He produced a gun, assaulted one resident, and threatened to kill them before they escaped. When one of the residents returned, she told investigators she saw Curtis parked outside the building in his vehicle. He pointed the revolver at her again, but this time, she hit his vehicle. He got out and fired the gun as she drove away. She described Curtis as someone who is “evil and has no remorse for his actions.” Law enforcement officials noted that the vehicle Curtis had been in was found to be stolen. It was found abandoned in the intersection at the scene of the crash. The firearm he used was later found in connection to a separate robbery. As of Sunday, March 2, Curtis remains behind bars with no bond listed in connection to this case. He has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. If convicted, he could face up to 29 years behind bars and a $20,000 fine. A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, with a preliminary hearing expected at 1 p.m. on March 26. No further information has been released.
