CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A quiet and cool evening is in store tonight as clear skies and lighter winds set the stage for a significant temperature drop.

Expect lows to fall well into the 40s across much of the region, with some upper 30s possible in low-lying areas where cooler air tends to settle. This means a crisp night ahead, so you might want to grab an extra blanket if you’re heading out late or planning to leave windows open. Sunday will be another gorgeous day, featuring abundant sunshine and highs in the 70s. It’s shaping up to be a perfect day for outdoor activities, whether planning a picnic, a hike, or just soaking up the sun.

By Monday, however, the weather takes a turn toward warmer conditions. Winds will shift to the south, kicking off a warming trend that will persist throughout the entire work week. Monday’s high temperatures will reach the lower 80s, which is above average for this time of year. The warming doesn’t stop there—by Wednesday, highs will climb further into the mid to upper 80s, giving us a taste of late-summer warmth. Along with the rising temperatures, you’ll notice the air feeling a bit more muggy, as dew points are expected to rise into the 60s, bringing a more humid feel to the atmosphere.

Despite the warmer and more humid conditions, rainfall will be scarce. Over the next nine days, we’re looking at minimal chances of precipitation. The only opportunity for a shower or storm comes next weekend, with a slight chance appearing from Saturday into Sunday. Even then, it’s far from a sure thing, so if you have outdoor plans for next weekend, don’t cancel just yet. Keep an eye on the forecast as the weekend draws closer, but for now, enjoy the clear skies and comfortable temperatures.
