The Indiana Fever parted ways with head coach Christie Sides on Sunday following a first-round exit in the WNBA playoffs. The team went 20-20 to land the No. 6 seed in the postseason before being swept by the Connecticut Sun . The decision came as a bit of a shock given the team’s success in the second half of the season. The Fever went 17-10 over the last 27 games following a 3-10 start. We have parted ways with head coach Christie Sides. Sides led the franchise to its first playoff appearance in nearly a decade, but she was just 33-47 across her two seasons as head coach. Indiana brass didn’t believe she could lead the Fever to an WNBA championship, so they cut her loose . There were criticisms of Sides, most of which were directed at in-game decisions and lineup management. Even Caitlin Clark was heard complaining at times. Now, Clark and Co. will have new leadership. Speculation has already been sparked in terms of a replacement, though nothing’s been set in stone. Christie Sides believes that whoever takes over will inherit a good situation thanks to the work that she put in. A few hours after the news went public, she posted a response to follower on social media. While the Fever didn’t believe her progress warranted another season on the sidelines, Sides says that she vastly improved the franchise while she was at the helm. It’s hard to argue given the young talent and recent playoff appearance. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t enough to help Sides keep her job.
