CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Dry weather will hold on through Friday, but cloud cover will slowly increase through the afternoon and evening.

This increase in clouds is a change from yesterday’s clearer skies, giving the day a somewhat gray and overcast feel. The clouds are moving in ahead of an approaching low-pressure system currently making its way out of the plains. As it heads towards us, this system will draw a frontal boundary across our area, setting the stage for some wet weather. By Saturday, we can expect light showers to start developing across the region. These showers may be fairly scattered at first, but they could linger through Sunday, keeping things damp for part of the weekend. However, rainfall amounts are expected to stay on the light side, so we aren’t anticipating any significant accumulation from this system. High temperatures through the weekend should reach the mid-50s, staying close to the seasonal norms for early November.

Looking a bit further out, we’ll keep an eye on the potential for another round of rain moving in by the middle of next week. This upcoming system might bring heavier rainfall than what we’re expecting over the weekend, so it’ll be worth keeping an eye on the forecast if you’re making any outdoor plans later next week.

In the meantime, this weekend’s light showers could make for a cozy fall atmosphere, with the cool temperatures and overcast skies giving the region that typical November feel. It’s a good time to grab your umbrella if you’re heading out on Saturday or Sunday, just in case you catch a shower.
