MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – Newly released documents show what led to the city shutting down a motel in Myrtle Beach.

Through a Freedom of Information Act request, WMBF News obtained the inspection report for the Blake Motel, located at 209 North Ocean Boulevard.

It shows an inspection was done on the property on Dec. 3, 2024. According to the documents, the property maintenance inspector found that the property was in violation of 26 codes and/or ordinances.

The property inspector found that the building was unsafe and dangerous. The documents also reveal that there were structural concerns with the building.

Along with building issues, the property inspector discovered a rodent infestation, deterioration in the building and electrical system hazards.

A spokesperson for the city of Myrtle Beach said the building owner was provided the list of complaints, but the owner never responded to them.

A property maintenance hearing was then held on Jan. 15 to determine the building’s future.

The building’s owner failed to show up at the hearing, so because of that, the city ordered for the Blake Motel to be boarded up and for it to be demolished within 30 days.

Assistant City Manager Brian Tucker explained that staff did not believe the building could be renovated in a cost-effective way relative to the property value.
