CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, and it’s architecture firm, have applied for a demolition permit that would tear down the vast majority of the once thriving hospital.

The City of Cleveland’s Permit Department confirms the hospital has applied for the demolition permit which sits on the edge of both the Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga Community College near downtown.

St. Vincent scaled back the majority of its operations in 2022, laying off nearly 1,000 employees in the process.

That move closed its emergency room and all inpatient care options.

The demolition would include all of the current structures on its main campus, except for the HCC Building or what labeled the ambulatory care center.

Late Monday, the The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine issued a press release which vaguely addresses plans for the property which they are calling a Health and Healing Hub.

Much of what was released was programs relocating to other facilities that are not being torn down.

The only project, in the press release, slated for the property on the massive E. 22nd St. lot is what’s being called a Neighborhood Family Practice.
