BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Bridgeport’s Edge of Town Farmers Market has been serving the North Central West Virginia community for just over four years. The store regularly carries fresh local produce and offers prepared foods from it’s in house kitchen.

With the fall season upon us, the market looks to bring back some fan favorites. With their annual corn maze and pumpkin patch opening this weekend, owner, Jason Poth, hopes to not only celebrate the fall season with the greater community but also to keep building upon their success.

“Our corn maze has grown, I think the first year we did it we were like a two-acre maze. We had a lot of people really enjoy it even though it was only two acres, had a guy that travels around and does corn mazes and he told us that year that he loved the design; and we just keep adding to it. Last year we added another acre, acre and a half to it. This year we added about two more acres.”

This year’s pumpkin patch came with some difficulties due to the drought that’s been affecting our area, but farm officials still have something special in store.

“This year has been extremely challenging with a lack of rain. So, I’ve got a buddy in Ohio that grew the pumpkins this year. It’s the first year we haven’t had a divide. Actually, when you go through the corn maze there are some volunteer pumpkins and there are some small ones in there, but nothing like we normally grow. One of the boys that helps us here on the farm, he’s growing a giant pumpkin; but he carries water to it every night. It’ll be on display sometime in October.”

A part of what makes experiencing the fall season in the wild and wonderful so special is the feeling you get – whether it be through the climate or just seeing establishing a new tradition.

“We celebrate the seasons here; you go someplace and you don’t have four seasons. Here, fall is super temperature. Maybe a flannel shirt day, but still, it’s just a crisp cool night and it smells good. It’s cheap family fun, it’s close to home. You’re not going to spend too much gas getting here, so come check us out.”
