BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Virginia Tech students are among those who are inconvenienced by a boil water notice. The notice went into effect Monday, for Montgomery County, the Town of Blacksburg, and Christiansburg.

“I can’t even go buy my own water, so hopefully I can just get as much as I can on campus,” said Jackie Mitchell, a senior student at Virginia Tech.

She says the campus is providing students with two bottles of water per student at the moment.

“I’m thankful that we’re able to get water, at least on campus,” said Mitchell.

Grocery stores surrounding the campus have near empty shelves. This has left some people to shop for whatever is left. Some gas stations nearby campus are almost out as well.

“It reminds me of, like, 2020 honestly, when there was no toilet paper anywhere,” explained Mitchell.

She says this not only inconveniences people who live in the area but thousands of Virginia Tech students.

“Luckily, my boyfriend lives off campus, so I was able to boil water to take a shower last night,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell is hoping people think twice when they’re in a store that still has water left.

“I just hope that people don’t like buy in bulk anymore, like maybe two cases per person will be helpful so that students are able to get water, since it is limited on campus for us,” explained Mitchell.
