Those who take a small but busy stretch of roadway in North Delta should expect delays as the city will undertake the Scottsdale Sanitary Pump Station and Forcemain Project this year.

The project consists of the installation of a new sanitary pump station at Scott Road and 70th Avenue, with forcemain upgrades and a new gravity main.

The existing pump station, located in a different area on the same property is to be decommissioned.

The city in its previous request for proposals said some “notable challenges” include traffic management and pedestrian control, as well as potential groundwater issues and potentially contaminated soil at the former gas station property.

The $3 million project along 70th Avenue is directly next door to the Scottsdale Centre mall.

Drivers using the avenue to access Scott Road from Nicholson should expect delays, however, the city has not yet issued a notice when the project, which was deferred from 2024, will commence but it is included the 2025 Financial Plan.

Those who take the commute up or down Scott Road, meantime, should expect some more delays in the coming months as paving projects are going to take place on both the Surrey and Delta sides of the corridor.

A staff report to Surrey council recommends the awarding of a contract for an extensive list of road paving projects throughout the city, including Scott Road from 95A Avenue to 97 Avenue, as well as from 100th Avenue to 101A Avenue.

On the Delta side, a road paving and rehabilitation project will take place this year on Scott Road from 64th Avenue to 66th Avenue.

Meanwhile, the second phase of the City of Delta’s 72nd Avenue roadway improvement project continues, scheduled for completion by fall 2025.

Among other things, that project from 115th Street to Scott Road will see road widening to accommodate four travel lanes, as well as a centre median island, along with new LED street lighting, sidewalk and bus stop improvements and a new traffic signal at 118th Street and 72nd Avenue.

The City of Delta is also in the planning stages of roadway improvements along 96th Avenue between 114th Street and Scott Road. That project is part of Delta’s Neighbourhood Road Improvements Program, in collaboration with the City of Surrey.
