LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - There are 91 open homicide cases from 2024 in Louisville. Victor Jones’ case is one of them. His family has upped the reward, hoping someone with information can help police make an arrest.

“My family is in a state of mourning,” said Muhammad Alif, Victor’s uncle. “It doesn’t affect you until it’s at your door. This is the first time we’ve ever had someone lost to gun violence and murder it’s a whole different feeling.”

Victor Jones, 43, was Louisville’s second homicide victim of 2024. He was shot and killed on January 18 inside his home off Brownsboro Road in the Clifton neighborhood. His family misses him.

“Very funny, family man,” Alif said. “He had a lot of good stuff with him and a lot of stuff I didn’t agree with.” Alif is the one who had to tell his older sister that her son had been murdered. “People know when someone is coming to your house in the wee hours of the morning, something has taken place,” Alif said. It’s probably one the toughest things I had to do in my life.”

The family initially offered a $50,000 reward in the case. Now that ten months have passed and no arrests have been made, they are now increasing the reward to $100,000. Alif says as sad as it is, that they don’t know who killed Victor. He still holds faith in police and says he checks in with the detective handling the case on a regular basis.

LMPD has their hands full with 136 homicide cases just from this year, 45 of those have been solved. Alif hopes his nephew’s case will be too, along with the other families like his.

“We just don’t want to me this is about Victor,” Alif said. “Human life is very, very important. At the end of the day, God knows. People know what’s in their heart. People will reach out.”

LMPD says the case is still open and being investigated. They are once again urging anyone with information to come forward. To submit a tip, click here .
