CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A family is still seeking answers to find the driver who hit their loved one and drove off in 2020.

Jamarion Washington was in a coma for three years before he passed away at 15 years old.

He was put in a coma after he was hit by a vehicle on Gilpin Avenue in Evanston on Nov. 11, 2020.

With the hopes the person responsible will come forward, Washington’s family gathers at the crash site every November 11th.

Emotional family members of Washington walked Victory Parkway, shouting chants asking the question they’ve been asking for four years now.

“Who hit Jamarion,” the family shouted.

On Nov. 11, 2020, the then 12-year-old Washington was walking his dog when he was hit in a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Victory Parkway and Gilpin Avenue.

The person who hit Washington drove off and was never arrested.

Washington was in a coma for three years, before he died one day after his 15th birthday in March 2023.

Washington’s mother, Jamellah Long, joined her family over FaceTime as they walked Victory Parkway.

She says she had to move after her son passed away.

Washington’s cousin, Maria Ashley, says if they can’t find the person who hit him and drove off, she hopes the city will put in speed bumps or other safety measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“We still don’t have any resolution to make sure any kid walking down this street has to go through that again,” Ashley said. ”No mother has to go down here again, wondering who hit her child.”

Ashley says putting up signs for Washington shows the world they will never move on as their lives will never be the same again.

She says helping to slow down drivers on Victory Parkway will give Washington some sort of justice, even if the person who hit him is never found.

“The least that I feel that the family can do is give him some sort of dedication of putting some speed bumps out here to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Ashley explained.

Call the Cincinnati Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040 if you have information on who hit Washington.
