ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Brisk Friday afternoon conditions are giving way to a cold holiday weekend. Another strong cold front sweeps through late Sunday, followed by even colder weather. Monday is a First Alert Weather Day .

Temperatures briefly peaked in the upper 40s and lower 50s this afternoon. A gusty breeze made it feel even chillier through the day. A clear sky, calmer winds and very dry air create the perfect setup for a cold night across north Georgia.

Temperatures plummet after sunset.

Plan on temperatures cooling back into the upper 30s and lower 40s by 9 p.m. in many communities. The breeze becomes lighter. But, it will still add to the cold-feel this evening. Bundle up!

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is forecast to record its first freeze of the season tonight.

Temperatures peak in the low to mid-50s Sunday afternoon, under just a few wispy high clouds. Another strong cold front sweeps through the southeast late Sunday afternoon and evening. Behind the front, even colder air filters in. Many communities, even Atlanta, are forecast to dip into the 20s Monday and Tuesday mornings. A widespread hard freeze is expected both mornings. Wind chills in the 10s and lower 20s are a good bet before 10 a.m., too.

A gradual warming trend begins during the middle of next week. But, it won’t last long. Another blast of cold air arrives heading into the end of the workweek.
