MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Fairly typical weather pattern is expected to start the week, with sun and clouds, a slight breeze and highs in the upper 80s and lows in the 60s. Wednesday and beyond, things will change! As all eyes are on the Gulf of Mexico as Tropical Storm Francine is expected to bring rain and wind to the Deep South later this week.

Monday and Tuesday will both feature a mix of sun and clouds. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 80s with overnight lows in the 60s. Mainly dry conditions are expected to start the week, but like Sunday, a few showers will be possible for the southern half of the state.

All eyes will be on the tropics as we move towards the end of the week. A cluster of storms in the far southwestern Gulf of Mexico will get pulled northward towards the northwestern Gulf Coast as the week unfolds.

It has been named Francine and now is a tropical storm. The newest data suggest that Francine could reach hurricane strength before making landfall - likely in Louisiana - and spreading rain across a large part of the Deep South.

While much of this rain will fall on Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, it’s possible that parts of Alabama get a good soaking late this week, too. That will depend on the precise track, which remains unclear until the system actually forms a center of circulation.

We’ll also mention at least some risk of a few tornadoes east of the track - again, until a center forms we won’t know if that’s Alabama, Mississippi or somewhere else, but there’s at least some chance of some brief tornadoes in the southeast Thursday and Friday.

Remain with the First Alert Weather Team and we will adjust the forecast as we continue to get better data in and move closer to the end of the work and school week.
