COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - After a warm end to the work week, First Alert Weather Days have been issued ahead of thunderstorms returning to the Midlands. Happy Friday! High pressure slides offshore today, bringing a southerly flow back to South Carolina. This will begin an increase of moisture across the state, although fire concerns will remain elevated due to a light breeze and how dry we’ve been lately. Southerly flow will make us warmer too, with highs this afternoon in the low-80s. Moisture continues to increase heading into the weekend, which is out ahead of our next disturbance and the source of our First Alert Weather Days. Saturday, we’re dry, but mostly cloudy, with high temperatures around 80 degrees. Sunday, a wave of energy passes through the Southeast, bringing a round of showers and storms. Monday is also a First Alert Weather Day. We’ll have another round of showers and storms with an approaching cold front. With Monday’s storms, severe weather is possible. The Storm Prediction Center has all of South Carolina under a Level 2 of 5 ‘Slight’ risk. The main threat with these storms would be damaging wind gusts of 60 to 70 MPH. Today: A blend of clouds and sunshine. Highs in the low-80s. Tonight: Cloud cover increasing overnight, becoming mostly cloudy by daybreak. Lows in the upper-50s. Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the low-80s. First Alert Weather Day (Sunday): Afternoon rain and rumbles of thunder. Chance of rain 50%. Highs in the upper-50s. First Alert Weather Day (Monday): Scattered thunderstorms.
