TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida A&M softball swept cross-state rival Bethune-Cookman this weekend (5-1, 1-0, 4-3). The final victory gave the Rattlers their eighth-straight win.

The Rattlers pulled out seven of those eight wins by two runs or fewer.

Florida A&M played great defense in the series finale to keep the Wildcats offense at bay, while Rattlers offense was hard to come by.

With two outs in the seventh inning, FAMU had runners on second and third facing a 3-2 deficit. Junior catcher Keeliegh Spooner worked nine-pitch at bat resulting in a two-RBI walk-off single.

“This is actually my first walk off, so I can’t express just how excited I was to do it for my team because they do everything for me,” said Sponner. “I was behind the plate the whole game and so I knew his strike zone very well. [The umpire] is very tight. I knew those pitches weren’t going to be solid hits and those were balls, 100 percent.”

Florida A&M head coach Brittany Beall is impressed with her team’s ability to stay in games.

“It’s just the fight mentality. Each time we step on the field, we want to get better. We answered today,” she said.

Highlights from game three are above.

In game two, Rattlers starting pitcher Amari Brown had to keep Bethune-Cookman off the board to preserve a 1-0 lead. Despite loading the bases twice and putting the game-tying run on third base in the seventh inning, she succeeded in shutting them out for the narrow victory.

Highlights from game two and postgame reaction from Brown are below.
