A former Nebraska football staff member could be rejoining Matt Rhule with the Huskers, according to a report. KETV's Big Red Insider Sean Callahan reported Friday that Phil Simpson will coach outside linebackers and edge rushers for NU. Simpson was a defensive quality control coach for the Huskers in 2023, after previously coaching high school football in Florida. He played for Rhule at Temple from 2004-07. After Nebraska, Simpson was a defensive analyst for Florida State in 2024. Defensive coordinator Tony White and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton have left the Huskers this offseason to join the Seminoles.
