FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A Fort Wayne man who was arrested overseas after fleeing the country in an attempt to avoid several sex crime charges was sentenced on Friday morning.

28-year-old Charles Dewey was sentenced to 14 years in prison after taking a plea deal in a sexual misconduct case on Aug. 1.

BACKGROUND: Fort Wayne man wanted for sexual abuse of children, providing narcotics to children arrested 7,000 miles away from U.S.

Dewey pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and child solicitation, possession of child pornography, dissemination of matter harmful to minors, and residential entry.

Per the agreement, three charges of rape were dropped.

Court documents say Dewey sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in November 2020. The affidavit says Dewey was supposed to be driving the victim to a friend’s house in exchange for cash, but partway through the drive, demanded the girl perform a sex act on him.

The victim said she reminded Dewey of her age, but he told her he had cancer and wanted to “have as much sex as he could before he dies.” She alleges Dewey then assaulted her at the Jorgenson YMCA.

The girl said Dewey then threatened to kill her family, later pulling out a gun and reminding her of the threats.

Dewey was later arrested in January in Saipan on several charges. Currently, the 28-year-old has four other active cases against him.
