MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Hockey players, friends, loved ones and supporters packed the Centene Community Ice Center to remember 16-year-old Colin Brown.

“I want his memory to go on far beyond my lifetime,” says Affton Coach, Bob Jakubeck.

The hockey star’s life was cut short the day before Thanksgiving 2024. Brown was riding with his dad on Interstate 55 when he was hit by a stray bullet, He died a short time later.

On Friday, community members gathered to honor his life with an event called “Pack the House for Colin.”

Affton and CBC both took to the rink to play in his memory. The players wore special uniforms for their teammate with the name Brown on the back of their jerseys.

“Our boys have played with Colin for a long time. It’s devastating news,” says parent, Jamie Mullen. “Not only for us but for the hockey community but it’s great for these boys to be able to go out there and show their support for him and how much they loved playing with him.”

Brown’s family took to the center of the ice for a ceremonial puck drop dedicated to his legacy. Both the St. Louis Blues and Dawg Nation presented them with a check in honor of Colin.

“It’s not just the Blues. It’s the hockey community. It’s the St. Louis community that will carry Colin’s legacy on,” says Randy Girsch of the St. Louis Blues.

A scholarship also was announced in Colin Brown’s name along with a 72-second moment of silence in commemoration of his jersey number.

“No matter how many seconds run off that clock it hails in comparison to what this kid means to me,” Jakubeck says.
