COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A front is approaching the region with rain likely moving in tonight through Monday. This has prompted a First Alert Weather Day due to concerns of flooding. Also, an isolated severe storm can’t be ruled out with the main threat of damaging wind gusts. Today’s temperatures will be summer-like again ahead of an approaching cold front slated to move in later tonight. It will also be windy with gusts to 30 mph. A Wind Advisory will be in effect this morning through midnight. While a spotty shower may be possible briefly through early afternoon, most areas will stay dry until tonight. The front moves into the Midlands later tonight and will move slowly across the region Monday. This could lead to pockets of heavy rain over some of the same areas, prompting concerns of localized flooding in isolated spots. This is why a First Alert Weather Day is in place for Monday. While the main concern for the Midlands is the potential for localized flooding Monday, there’s also a low chance of an isolated strong to severe storm for western counties late today and our eastern counties tomorrow afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined parts of the Midlands in a ‘Level 1/5 Marginal’ risk for severe storms. Main concern will be damaging wind gusts with any storm that becomes severe today or tomorrow. Today: Another hot afternoon with highs in the upper 80s under a mix of sun and clouds. Isolated shower or storm possible before sunset, mainly west. Tonight: Rain begins to increase from west to east. Advancement of rain may be slow with pockets of heavy rain over same areas possible, especially west. Lows in the mid to upper 60s. First Alert Weather Day (Monday): Widespread showers with periods of heavy rainfall likely throughout the day. Highs peak in the lower 70s. Tuesday: Drying out and cooler with highs in the middle to upper 60s. Wednesday: Seasonably cool in the middle 60s with plenty of sunshine around. Thursday: Mainly sunny with temperatures in the lower 70s. . .
