A deputy observed the driver of a silver Dodge passenger car, later identified as 44-year-old Juan Carlos Guerrero, traveling westbound on State Road 44 in Lake Panasoffkee at around 6 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He noticed the vehicle did not have a white light illuminating the rear registration plate, making it illegible from a distance of 50 feet. As a result, the deputy activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection with Northwest 33 rd Drive. He then approached Guerrero and asked for his driver’s license. Guerrero stated he did not speak English, so the request was repeated in Spanish, the report said. Guerrero shook his head no, indicating he did not have a driver’s license. A record check using his name and date of birth showed no record of a driver’s license for him. A criminal history check also came back with no results, the report said. The native of Mexico was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. He was transported to Sumter County Jail with bond set at $150. Additionally, ICE placed a hold on him.
