The Illinois Department of Public Health is rolling out a new measles simulator dashboard as cases continue to pop up across the country. The data dashboard will help school officials and residents assess the potential severity of any outbreaks of measles. People can find out the measles vaccination rate in any school in the state, public or private, to help people determine the risk of their child being exposed. More than 22 states have reported at least one case of measles. Health officials are monitoring a big outbreak in Texas and New Mexico that has resulted in more than 530 cases and three deaths, two of which were children. IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra is reminding people that the MMR vaccine is the best way to prevent measles. Illinois has not reported any cases this year.
