KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An arrest has been made and murder charges filed after the man believed to be behind a fatal shooting at a Kansas City apartment complex was found.

Clay County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, April 30, indicate that Dominick X. Alvarez, 20, of Kansas City, has been charged with murder in the first-degree in connection with a fatal March shooting.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that around 10:15 p.m. on March 25, law enforcement officials were recalled to the Bennington Ridge Apartments, near N. Bennington and N. Ewing Ave., with reports of a shooting.

When first responders arrived, they were led to an apartment where they found a man lying in the dining room with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, later identified as Dewayne Toomb, 20, was taken to North Kansas City Hospital , where he was pronounced deceased.

A witness told investigators that Alvarez had been at the apartment to give her marijuana. She was told by both the deceased and Alvarez that there had not been an issue between them. However, as the witness returned to the kitchen to cook, she heard a gunshot.

The witness said she returned to find Alvarez standing over Toomb with a gun in his hand as he went through the victim’s pockets. Data from Alvarez’s phone and messages he sent through Instagram also indicated he had been behind the shooting.

Court documents indicated that Alvarez was not found until his April 30 arrest. He has been charged with murder in the first degree and armed criminal action as a result.

A bond reduction hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6. As of Thursday, May 1, Alvarez remains behind bars on a $1 million bond. No further information has been released.
