SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The Caddo Parish School Board meets to discuss a possible postponement but goes ahead with its interview with Keith Burton.

On Sept. 11, the Caddo Parish School Board interviews Keith Burton, a candidate for Caddo Parish superintendent. The interview comes following multiple attempts to postpone the interview and a judge refused to block the council from interviewing the sole finalist.

“You can’t discount the cries and the pleas of the people you represent,” said Shreveport Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor, regarding the council moving forward with the interview, despite pleas.

“I’m only asking that you all will provide due diligence in your process,” said Jon Glover.

Despite opposition, the interview with Burton continued.

During the interview, Burton claims he invested everything in education in Caddo Parish for 23 years and left every position better than he found it. He spoke on being a teacher and a principal and serving as the chief academic officer for 11 years. Burton also claims that one of his strengths is putting people around him who are outstanding and that he can build teams, but is also capable of restructuring.

Burton reminded the school board that he has sons and a daughter who are teachers, and his wife is also in education. Buton also grew up in a family that was involved in education, his father was on Webster Parish School Board and his mother was a teacher.
