KVOE announced the Emporia Main Street Emporia High, and Area Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2024-25 season during Saturday Morning Sports Talk. The Emporia High Athletes of the Year are Madden Seidl and Ryane Howe. The Emporia High Coach of the Year is boys and girls bowling coach Amy Martin. The Area Athletes of the Year are Olpe’s Dexton Hoelting and Osage City’s Lexi Boss. The Area Coach of the Year is Olpe football and boys basketball coach Chris Schmidt. Seidl played baseball for Emporia High for four years, football for two years and basketball for two years. Seidl received All-Centennial League honors in football this past fall with baseball accolades still to be announced. Seidl will continue his baseball career at Cloud Community College in Concordia. Howe played softball and volleyball for four years while playing basketball for two years. Howe was in the top one percent of Kansas senior academically. Howe will continue her education at Emporia State University and will look to attend pharmacy school after attending ESU. Hoelting had a bounce-back senior season after suffering an injury during football of his junior year. Hoelting guided the Eagles to a 7-3 record in football and a state championship in basketball with a 24-2 record. Hoelting was also a first-team All-Lyon County selection in basketball. Hoelting also played baseball and ran track for one year. Hoelting also participates in rodeo outside of school. Hoelting will attend Western Oklahoma State College on a full-ride scholarship for rodeo and studying pre-vet. Boss was a three-sport athlete for Osage City playing volleyball, basketball and track and field. Boss currently holds the school record in the discus and was a state champion in Class 3A in 2024. Boss helped Osage City to state in basketball this past winter. After competing in the state track and field championships next weekend in the discus, javelin and shot put, she’ll attend Wichita State University while continuing her track career. Martin guided the Spartans and Lady Spartans to a pair of state finishes. The Spartans finished third at state while the Lady Spartans finished seventh. Schmidt guided the Eagles to a 7-3 record in football and the school’s second state basketball championship in three years with a 24-2 record. Seidl, Howe, Hoelting and Boss each received a $300 scholarship. Emporia High winners were voted on by KVOE’s Sportscaster Club Boosters. Area winners were voted on by principals from area schools.
