JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was arrested and charged with the murder of a 22-year-old who was shot during an argument in Northwest Jacksonville in mid-April, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said Sergio Espada, 23, was detained six days ago in Orlando and was extradited to Jacksonville on Monday in connection with the murder of Killian Barnette.

On April 18, officers were called to New Kings Road after receiving reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, police found Barnette lying near the roadway with a gunshot wound to his torso, according to JSO.

Police said Barnette died at the hospital.

According to JSO, detectives interviewed two key witnesses who told them Barnette and Espada had gotten into a physical fight before the shooting. After the interaction, witnesses told police Espada pulled out his gun and shot Barnette one time before driving away.

Espada is now in the Duval County jail facing a second-degree murder charge.
