INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - A man previously convicted of killing his father in Kansas has now been convicted of pulling a knife on his roommates in Missouri.

Jackson County, Missouri, Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced on Wednesday, Feb. 26, that Zachary Arnold, 27, has been convicted in connection to threats made against two individuals with a knife. He had been on parole for an involuntary manslaughter conviction in Kansas at the time.

Johnson noted that a Jackson County jury convicted Arnold of unlawful use of a weapon, a Class E, felony on Tuesday. He could now be sentenced to up to 4 years in prison for the crime.

Court documents revealed that the Independence Police Department was called to a local park with reports of an attack. The two victims reported Arnold had been living at their house and made several threats to hurt them.

The victims told law enforcement officials they moved out of the home as Arnold’s behavior became more erratic. When they visited to feed their animals, Arnold allegedly pulled out a large silver knife and pointed it at them.

At the time, court records indicated Arnold had been on parole after a conviction for involuntary manslaughter. That conviction was related to the killing of his father in 2019.

“This verdict sends a clear message that Jackson County will not tolerate violent behavior, especially for those who were given a second chance and released early through the parole system,” said Prosecutor Johnson. “Let this also be a reminder that threatening someone with any weapon—even a knife—is a serious crime that can result in prison time. Our office remains committed to holding violent offenders accountable and keeping our community safe.”

A sentencing hearing has not yet been set. As of Wednesday, Arnold remains behind bars on a $15,000 bond. No further information has been released.
