The Maryland Terrapins are excited and hungry for another postseason run. For the 21st time in Brenda Frese's 23 years at Maryland, the Terps are dancing as a four-seed in the first round. The Maryland women's basketball team's reaction on Selection Sunday revealed how genuinely excited the players are — not that they didn't know they were going to be in the tournament, but the fact that they will host, which was not predicted all season long. "It was definitely really special, and I think because, all season long, you know, they never had us in that top 16 reveal," said Frese, Maryland's head coach. "What I love about this group is that it didn't matter. They just continued to put their head down and go to work, understand how tough of a schedule we had built — both non-conference as well as our conference — prepares you, and the body of work showed itself." "It feels good, you know, just to come back in the Xfinity (Center), play in front of the fans and everything. I know we all, we all wanted to host and, well, it feels really good," Maryland senior guard Sarah Te-Biasu said. The Terps needed a little time to refocus after a stunning loss to Michigan in the Big Ten quarterfinals. After a week off, they're healthier and ready. "We had (to) look in the mirror a little bit after our loss to Michigan, but I think being able to kind of self-reflect was the best thing for us. I think everyone took accountability," Maryland senior guard Saylor Poffenbarger said. Norfolk State — which won 30 games, including two against SEC opponents — provides a huge first-round test for Maryland come 4 p.m. on Saturday. "They're hard-nosed, led by a great player, and, Diamond Johnson, obviously, we know her very well. Their team is just really gritty," Maryland senior guard Shyanne Sellers said. If the Terps are able to advance, they will play Monday against the winner of the Alabama-Green Bay game.
