The Wolverines beat the Spartans 24-17 after the Michigan defense stopped a potential game-tying drive. In the first quarter, Michigan State jumped out to a 7-0 lead after a Nate Carter run up the middle found the goal line. Michigan gained momentum with a nice drive finished with a Davis Warren throw to Colston Loveland in the endzone. A bad snap would keep the Wolverines from tying the game with an extra point. With seconds left in the half, the Michigan defense grabbed a fumble by Aidan Chiles and was able to get in field goal range for kicker Dominic Zvada, giving the Wolverines a 9-7 lead at halftime. Michigan would start the third quarter with an Alex Orji run that resulted in the Wolverines taking a 16-7 lead. Jonathan Kim would get three points back for the Spartans with time running out in the third. Perhaps the best play of the night was a handoff to Donovan Edwards who then passed the ball downfield 23 yards to Colston Loveland for a 24-10 Michigan lead. The Spartans responded with a 13-play drive that ended with a Chiles pass to Nick Marsh to pull within 7 points. After getting the ball back MSU needed a score and the Michigan defense stood tall getting the turnover on downs. Michigan won 24-17 and kept the Paul Bunyan trophy in Ann Arbor.
