MORTON, Miss. (WLBT) - A 47-year-old Lake Middle School teacher has been arrested for the sexual battery of a minor.

According to the Morton Police Department, a report on August 17, was filed for the possible sexual assault of a minor.

After investigating, MPD found probable cause to contact Child Protective Services regarding the matter.

Mark Jones, a former employee of Lake Middle School in Scott County, was arrested for sexual assault by the Morton Police Department on September 5 after a forensic interview was conducted on the child.

Judge Whitney Adams issued a warrant for the arrest of Jones for seven counts of sexual battery of a child by a person of authority.

According to MPD, Jones turned himself over to police, and a bond of $500,000 per charge was set by Judge Adams.

This case is still under active investigation.

When WLBT staff reached out to the Scott County School District, they stated that the district no longer employs him.
