MORTON, Miss. (WLBT) - A 47-year-old Lake Middle School teacher has been arrested for the sexual battery of a minor. According to the Morton Police Department, a report on August 17, was filed for the possible sexual assault of a minor. After investigating, MPD found probable cause to contact Child Protective Services regarding the matter. Mark Jones, a former employee of Lake Middle School in Scott County, was arrested for sexual assault by the Morton Police Department on September 5 after a forensic interview was conducted on the child. Judge Whitney Adams issued a warrant for the arrest of Jones for seven counts of sexual battery of a child by a person of authority. According to MPD, Jones turned himself over to police, and a bond of $500,000 per charge was set by Judge Adams. This case is still under active investigation.
