STARKVILLE, Miss. (WLBT) - A record 2,617 fans packed into MSU Soccer Stadium Friday night to see the 7th-ranked Mississippi State women’s soccer team face #1 Arkansas . Coming into the contest, the reigning SEC-champion Razorbacks were 9-0-1 and had lost only six regular season conference games in the last five years. The Bulldogs defense locked down the Razorbacks, limiting them to just five shots, and Ally Perry’s goal in the 20th minute was the difference in a 1-0 victory. The win is the first in program history over a top-ranked team, and improves the Bulldogs’ record to 10-1-0 (4-0-0 SEC). " [The fans] really showed up and showed out tonight,” said head coach James Armstrong . “They were boisterous, they were energetic. They had choices, they could have gone to the Bulldog Bash. All lot of people put a lot of hard work in to make this possible. But for [the fans] to choose us tonight, I could almost get emotional. It was incredible.” Mississippi State has allowed just two goals in 11 games this season, and all of the Bulldogs’ wins have come in shutouts. " It’s like I’m watching superheroes work in front of me,” graduate goalkeeper Maddy Anderson said. “You see Macey [ Hodge ] flying one way and Ilana [ Izquierdo ] flying the other. Bux [ Alivia Buxton ], Ally [Perry], all of them are working so hard. Our midfield is key to our team. They help get the ball down and screen players, so they don’t get to our backline. They honestly are work horses. They run like nine miles a game. I don’t know how they do it, that’s crazy to me.” The Bulldogs are back in action next Thursday, when they travel to Athens to play Georgia. Want more WLBT news in your inbox?
