LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — ABC 13 declares Monday a “Weather Alert Day. ” Storms worthy of Severe T-Storm Warnings (wind and hail threat) will develop and move across the ABC13 area on Monday afternoon.

A few Tornado Warnings could be issued also, but I don’t see this as a pronounced tornado threat for us— the wind direction change with height is not ideal for tornadoes here, but can’t be ruled out either. (If surface wind was from SE, we would see much higher tornado threat. However, surface wind is S/SW, which is a similar direction to upper flow-- not much wind turning.)

On Monday, a few showers are possible during the morning.

It’s very humid with mostly cloudy to cloudy skies and windy-- feels like a storm day.

Wind gusts near 40mph can be expected during the afternoon. During early afternoon, batches of t-storms develop near/in the mountains, then march across Virginia.

Storms will move SW to NE. This is not a 100% coverage of rain-- some locations could miss the rain.

The severe threat is highest between Monday, 1 p.m., and 7 p.m. for Central and Southside Virginia.
