COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Through the weekend, highs will be more like the first days of summer, topping out near 90 degrees. This all changes when a cold front moves into the region late Sunday into Monday, prompting our next First Alert Weather Day for Monday due to localized flooding concerns.

High pressure will dominate our weather for the next few days. This will help to warm us to near record highs today and tomorrow. Highs reach the upper 80s, close to the record of 91! Despite mostly cloudy skies early, we’ll see more sunshine through the afternoon. This will also help to boost our highs to near record levels.

High pressure strengthening its grip over our area will also limit rain chances into the weekend. In fact, we’ll stay dry until a cold front moves into the region. As for now, it looks like the rain will not reach the Midlands until late Sunday.

The rain will likely overspread our region Sunday evening into Monday. Pockets of heavy rain will be possible at times. Because some areas could see more than an inch of rain Monday, a First Alert Weather Day is in effect to start the work due to possible minor flooding.

Today: Clouds partially clear this afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s.

Saturday: After a cloudy start, skies partially clear this afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s.

Sunday: Showers and a few rumbles of thunder possible late in the day. Chance of rain 40%. Highs in the mid and upper 80s.

First Alert Weather Day (Monday): Rounds of heavy rain throughout the day. Chance of rain 80%. Rain totals up to around an inch. Highs around 70 degrees.

Tuesday: Sunshine returns. Upper 60s with sunny skies.
