COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A solid effort on the mound led Nebraska to a 7-2 win at Maryland on Saturday. After allowing four homers in a 12-5 loss Friday, the Huskers were able to even the series by quieting the Terrapin offense. The rubber game will begin at noon Sunday. Three NU pitchers combined to scatter eight hits as Ty Horn went the first six innings to earn his second win this season. Horn allowed six hits, walked two and struck out five in his 92 pitches. Drew Chirsto and Casey Daiss combined to work the final three innings. "He was outstanding," coach Will Bolt said of Horn. "His arsenal was great, pounded the zone." At the plate, NU (20-23, 8-12) got big days from Cayden Brumbaugh and Case Sanderson as both went 3 for 3 and combined for five RBIs. It was catcher Hogan Helligso who put the Huskers in front with an RBI single to center in the second inning. Then it was Sanderson and Brumbaugh who gave the Huskers separation in the middle innings. Sanderson delivered an RBI double in the fourth, then a three-run fifth made it 5-0. Brumbaugh and Max Buettenback brought in the first two runs with back-to-back doubles, and Sanderson finished the rally with a two-out RBI single. "Two-out hitting was really good today," Bolt said. "A lot of big hits, honestly." Maryland scored a pair of late runs, but Nebraska answered those when Brumbaugh lined an RBI single to left in the eighth and Sanderson homered to center in the ninth. Nebraska plans to start Jackson Brockett on Sunday.
