LAUDERDALE CO., Ala. ( WAFF )—A new Netflix documentary is once again putting Lauderdale County in the national spotlight. The documentary, “Jailbreak, Love on the Run,” highlights the infamous jail escape of prisoner Casey White and corrections officer Vicky White. The documentary is now one of the most popular documentaries on the streaming platform and is being viewed worldwide. The escape made national headlines after former corrections officer Vicky White allowed career criminal Casey White to escape the Lauderdale County jail. They were found together in Evansville, Indiana, 11 days later, where officials said Vicky took her own life. The documentary features several interviews with those involved in the search for the pair, including former Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton. He said this documentary gives viewers a good understanding of what led up to the escape. “The contact they had while he was in the county jail was basically eye to eye. They were able to communicate in the jail without the necessity of a phone call,” he said. “I wouldn’t say she didn’t make some calls on the burner phone, but I think people would’ve recognized her voice, so I’d be surprised if it happened.” He said he sat down for about seven hours to interview with the crew for Netflix and was impressed by how it turned out. He said the audio of phone calls between the two has caused him to come to a realization about the whole case, and the relationship between the two. “People do strange things for love, and I don’t have any question in my mind that Vicky didn’t love Casey White,” he said. “I never believed Casey cared for Vicky. He was planning escape the first time he came up here before he even knew Vicky White. His motive was get out of jail.” Singleton went on to say Casey White had contact with other women just a week after he was re-captured. He said this documentary also showed him something he hadn’t previously seen. That’s the 911 call of the two in Evansville, Indiana, before Vicky White’s death was ruled a suicide. Singleton believes the shooting was an accident. Click Here to Subscribe on YouTube: Watch the latest WAFF 48 news, sports & weather videos on our YouTube channel!
