GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WLBT) - Ole Miss football’s playoff hopes crashed to the ground Saturday in the swamps of Florida.

The ninth-ranked Rebels, who were in position to make the College Football Playoff if they won their final two games, traveled to Gainesville to face 5-5 Florida. The Gators shocked the Rebels, and ended their playoff hopes, with a 24-17 win.

The two teams were tied at the end of each of the first three quarters.

In the second quarter, following a Florida touchdown, Jaxson Dart tossed a TD pass to Tre Harris, who was making his first appearance since the game against LSU on Oct. 12. However, Harris, the Rebels' leading receiver this season, would later leave the game.

In the fourth quarter, with the score tied at 17, the Gators took the lead on a Montrell Johnson Jr. 9-yard touchdown run.

With the Rebels driving late trying to tie the game, Dart threw an interception in the end zone to give the Gators possession back.

However, Ole Miss had all three timeouts and the defense prevented Florida from gaining a first down to regain possession.

After another Dart interception was overturned after it was ruled the ball touched the ground, the Rebels were given another chance.

With less than a minute to go in the game, Dart threw another interception, this one a game-ender.

Dart finished with three interceptions in the game; it was his first multiple-interception game in two seasons.

The Rebels fall to 8-3 on the season and will finish their season at home against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl on Friday.
