Baton Rouge Police homicide detectives are investigating the death of man caused by gunshots fired from another vehicle at 2:50 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 10 West, near the I-10/I-12 split.

Detectives learned that an SUV was traveling westbound at this location when the gunshots were fired from a fleeing vehicle, police said. The SUV then crashed into a truck traveling in the same direction and flipped onto its side after both vehicles hit the retaining wall.

The driver of the flipped SUV, Erik Dorsey, 22, was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS as a result of gunshot wounds to his body, police said. Multiple occupants from both vehicles were transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Only Dorsey suffered from gunshot wounds.

The motive and suspect(s) are unknown at this time.

Anyone having information on the shooting is urged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225)v344-7867.
