FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) released body-worn camera footage Friday morning from an officer-involved shooting that left two officers injured and the suspect dead.

Police Chief Kevin Davis held a press conference at 11 a.m. to release the footage tied to the April 23 incident in Fair Oaks.

According to police, the suspect, Jamal Wali, 36, was stopped by an officer who was conducting traffic enforcement in the 4000 block of Majestic Lane near Greenbriar. When the officer stopped Wali, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla, Wali was "argumentative" and "refused to obey commands," officials said.

Additional officers responded, and at some point, police said Wali reached for a gun and opened fire, striking two officers.

A third officer returned fire, hitting Wali four times, police said.

Officers began to perform life-saving measures on the two officers who were shot and on Wali, officials said. The two officers were taken to a local hospital in a "non-life-threatening condition," officials said, and Wali was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Friday, Davis said a bullet traveled through one of the officers' arm, out the other side, and then traveled in and out of the forearm of the second officer.

"Mr. Wiley was agitated... He was irate. He was upset. And just before you hear the words, you hear the first officer's tone, and his tone was de-escalating in nature," Davis described the footage moments before shots were fired.

Davis said the officers did the best under very difficult circumstances.

Authorities also reviewed video, equivalent to a GoPro, that belonged to Wiley.

"In that scenario, it would be malfeasance for a police officer to walk away from that traffic stop. We certainly can't do that. We know he was armed. We saw how agitated he was, he was hostile," Davis added.

Under department policy, bodycam footage from officer-involved shootings must be released within 30 days.
