CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Richard Pitino was introduced Tuesday as Xavier’s new head basketball coach.

Pitino called it a dream job and said he wanted three things: A basketball school, a great city, and a conference like the Big East.

Richard Pitino, the son of coaching legend Rick Pitino, takes over at Xavier after Sean Miller left the school for Texas.

Xavier was the one he said Richard needed to take.

“We’re both bad golfers. You would think it’s Sunday at The Masters when we play. He’s so very competitive. That’s the thing I learned to get everybody to scratch and claw and do it again. I can’t wait for him to see all of this but I know it’s going to be very, very hard to beat him,” Richard said.

The 42-year-old Pitino spent the past four seasons at the University of New Mexico.

He led the Lobos men’s team to the second round of this year’s NCAA Tournament.
